An eSwatini national has been sentenced to nine life terms and a further 199 years for a string of crimes committed between 2012 and 2019.
National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said 37-year-old John Mashele, was sentenced in the High Court in Mpumalanga this week.
He was found guilty on multiple counts of rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances, housebreaking with intent to commit murder, murder, extortion, and kidnapping.
Nyuswa said Mashele and two accomplices, Lungelo Dlamini and Maxwell Mamba, conducted a seven-year crime spree, offering lifts to women and then robbing and robbing them.
“All these crimes were committed in Lydenburg and KaBokweni districts. Some of the victims were raped repeatedly by Mashele. One of them was heavily pregnant and another one was a minor,” she said.
Nyuswa said Dlamini and Mamba pleaded guilty in January and were sentenced to life imprisonment.
