Sergeant in hot water for failing to charge woman for drinking in public

A police sergeant from Pretoria Central is under investigation for failing to charge a suspect for drinking in public.

A video on social media is doing the rounds where the sergeant is seen exchanging words with an alleged drunk woman seen drinking in her vehicle.

Station management was notified of the video, and a preliminary investigation revealed that the officer and her team were on patrol when they encountered the woman.

The suspect was taken to the station in a police van but eventually released without being charged.

The Sergeant has since been moved from the front service desk to administrative duties.
