Police in Tongaat, north of Durban, have arrested a security guard at a minibus taxi rank in the CBD after he apparently accidentally shot himself in the leg.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele says they were alerted to a shooting incident at a taxi rank.
She says then they arrived at the taxi rank they found the guard, who guards the area, with a gunshot wound to the leg.
It is alleged that he accidentally shot himself with a rifle and was taken to hospital for medical attention under police guard.
He will be charged with discharging a firearm in public and negligent handling of a firearm.
Mbele says the rifle with 28 rounds of ammunition was seized for further investigations.
The security guard will appear in the Verulam Magistrates Court soon.
