National police say security will be beefed up to make sure voter registration runs smoothly this weekend.
The chairperson of the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure, Lt-Gen Elias Mawela, says they are ready to deal with any eventualities.
The Structure includes the SA Police Service, the SA National Defence Force and several other government departments.
Voter registration takes place tomorrow and on Sunday throughout the country.
Mawela says it will be the task of the joint security forces to ensure that the process takes place in a peaceful environment, free of intimidation and violence.
He says joint operational centres at national and provincial levels have been set up and will be continuously monitoring the situation.
