A second police constable from the Nyanga Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is expected to appear in court on Friday on charges of kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The 35-year-old officer is the fifth person to be arrested in connection with the abduction and robbery of two people from a house in Thubelistha in Cape Town late January.
Hawks spokesperson, Warrant Officer Bonnie Nxumalo, says the Constable was arrested member of the Provincial Kidnapping Task Team on Wednesday.
She says the two victims were allegedly held at a house in Phillipi East where they were allegedly assaulted and robbed of a Ford Ranger bakkie.
Four of the suspects, Constable Ngangaphila Somgaca, and co-accused, 33-year-old Luvuyo Lwabi, 32-year-old Nicodimus Pasapanody, and Andrew Soko, have already appeared in court and were remanded in custody.
All five are expected to apply for bail in the Belville Magistrate's Court on Friday.
