The Search for a young couple who went missing in Stellenbosch on Friday ended in tragedy when their bodies were discovered on Monday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi says at around 10 am a community member spotted an object in a dam in Paul Kruger Street and alerted authorities.
He says when police arrived they secured the scene and noticed the wheels of a car sticking out.
Police requested assistance from the provincial diving unit and retrieved two bodies from the vehicle.
Although police did not identify the deceased other media houses confirmed their identities as 18-year-old Leila Lees and 22-year-old Ethan Kirkland.
The couple was last seen in Kirkland's Subaru on Friday evening.
Police have opened up an inquest docket for further investigation.
