The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed to the media that a search and seizure operation was carried out at the home of the Speaker of Parliament.
Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa Nqakula's house was raided by the Investigative Directorate (ID) on Tuesday.
Spokesperson, Advocate Mthunzi Mhaga, says it relates to an investigation against the Speaker but said that no further comment would be made, regarding the case.
Earlier this month, the EFF, issued a statement following a damning report that implicated Mapisa Nqakula in a cash bribery scandal amounting to over R2.3 million.
The Speaker was implicated in an affidavit submitted to the ID by the owner of Umk'hoba Marine suggesting that while she was Minister of Defence, she solicited and received millions of rand in cash bribes delivered in gift bags between 2016 and 2019 for freight and logistics services for the South African National Defence Forces (SANDF)
On the same day, the Democratic Alliance (DA) called upon the Joint Committee on Ethics and Members Interests to conduct a swift, impartial and comprehensive investigation into the allegations of corruption against the Speaker.
