The owner of a scrapyard in Mpumalanga and his employee are expected to appear in the White River Magistrates Court on Friday following their arrest for the illegal possession of firearms and explosives.

Captain Dineo Sekgotodi says the suspects, aged 32 and 45, were arrested at their workshop in Hazyview on Thursday.

She says the Hawks received a tip-off and swooped on the premises where they found hunting rifles, a 9 mm pistol, rifle barrels, handgun ammunition, homemade silencers and improvised active homemade explosive devices.

Captain Sekgotoodi says experts from the Explosive Unit and Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) were called in to provide assistance after the weapons and explosives were discovered.
