Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts ordered National Treasury to leave a briefing on Tuesday because the head of procurement was not available.
Committee chairperson, Themba Godi, said in a brief statement that the Committee was due to hear representations from Treasury on “procurement through deviations”, but this could not take place due to the unavailability of the head of the Chief Procurement Office.
“Members of Scopa have requested the Director-General of National Treasury and the Head of the Office of the Chief Procurement Officer to be present at the next meeting to brief the Committee on the presentation,” Godi said.
“This is in order for the people who are responsible for accounting at National Treasury to assist the Committee in regards to questions that might arise out of the presentation,” he said.
Godi said that the Committee will schedule a meeting again with National Treasury as soon as possible.
Scopa will hold a hearing with the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) and South African Post Office (Sapo) on the social grant payment contract on Tuesday evening.
