Scam alert issued for online furniture company

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a warning to consumers to exercise caution when making transactions with a company called Milo Designs.

A spokesperson Phetho Ntaba says the supplier seems to be a scam purporting to be an online store that designs and sells furniture on different social media platforms.

She says one consumer was scammed to the tune of R1.2 million while others paid smaller amounts of up to R10 000.

Ntaba says the owners are not cooperating and will supply an address of a dilapidated building, or cancel meetings at the last minute.

The Commission also discovered that the images of the furniture they claim to manufacture are in fact not from South Africa but obtained from suppliers based in countries such as Columbia and Canada.

Some images have been taken from Pinterest.

Ntaba says the modus operandi is to advertise goods and take money from consumers, with no intention of delivery.

Milo Designs has a Facebook page with just over 260 000 followers.

Complaints about Milo Designs on Hello Peter go as far back as 2017.
