Police in the Northern Cape have arrested three suspects in the small town of Williston in connection with the illegal possession of 29 Bank and SASSA cards as well as the ID books of 23 people.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba says the men were arrested in the early hours of Friday morning as they were busy withdrawing money from the unsuspecting victims’ bank accounts.
Police also confiscated their vehicle, a speed point machine and R27 760.00 in cash.
The Suspects will appear in court on the 31st of December.
Meanwhile, beneficiaries who still have their old SASSA cards would not be able to access their money on Friday. The South African Post Office has urged the public to go to their nearest post office and change these cards immediately.
The January money of beneficiaries with old cards will be paid into a gold SASSA card and will be able to make withdrawals once obtained.
