The South African Revenue Service on Monday warned small businesses owners about con artists demanding “outstanding payments” on undeclared taxes.
Sars said in a statement that taxpayers and traders with outstanding accounts should resolve the matter directly with SARS. It added that there had been a number of incidents in recent months where fraudsters had “demanded money to wipe off debts”.
“No money should be paid over to debt collectors or self-proclaimed SARS officials. In fact, collectors who want money to be handed over to them must be immediately reported,” the statement added.
