SARS commissioner, Edward Kieswetter, has strongly condemned the attempted assassination of advocate Coreth Naude.
According to social media reports, two gunmen fired shots at her vehicle in Umhlanga on Thursday after she left the tax inquiry of Royal AM football club owner, Shauwn Mkhize.
Kieswetter said the “shocking act” was intended to intimidate officers of the court to abandon the vital work they’re performing in furtherance of the country’s legal system.
“It undermines the authority of the State,” he said.
Naude, who is recovering in hospital, was involved in the Mkhize tax inquiry after the businesswoman was slapped with a reported R37 million tax bill, which she vowed to contest.
Kieswetter meanwhile called on law enforcement agencies to act with speed in pursuing and arresting those responsible.
“SARS wishes Advocate Naude a speedy recovery and wishes her family well.
“We will not be intimidated by such acts of crime and cowardice,” he said.
