The South African Police Service has embarked on its 2024/25 recruitment process in which an additional 10 000 people aged between 18 and 35 will be trained.
The announcement was made by the Deputy Minister of Police, Cassel Mathale during a National Career Expo in Mdantsane in East London on Saturday.
Spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says the expo provided the SAPS with the opportunity to showcase, educate and expose communities to the various career paths in the police.
She says management also announced that the age limit for recruiting new trainees had been raised to 35.
Mathale says the aim is to ensure sufficient boots on the ground to serve and protect communities.
The National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola says the organisation targets those passionate about public service.
“We are inviting disciplined, upright, and passionate candidates who are ready to serve and protect their communities. With more boots on the ground, we aim to enhance and improve our response to emerging crime trends”, he said.
