A woman from Kirkwood who allegedly conned festival goers in an apparent accommodation scam is under investigation for fraud.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, confirmed on Monday that one case was opened at the Kabega Park police station.
The alleged victim said she had used the Spar Kirkwood Widlfees' Facebook page to seek accommodation in April when she was approached by the woman.
Algoa FM News has learned that several other people will be opening cases later on Monday.
In a statement on Monday afternoon, the management team of the Kirkwood Wildsfees said it had been alerted by the Kirkwood police and visitors to an alleged online accommodation scam which affected people from as far afield as Polokwane to the north and Worcester to the south.
"The person against whom charges are reportedly being laid is not a member of the Wildsfees team. She is and was never an agent for the Wildsfees," said Festival Director Jenni Honsbein.
"No accommodation is booked through the Wildsfees offices, and there are, therefore, no agents for the Wildsfees or Sundays River Tourism, whose offices are financed and managed by the Wildsfees."
We are cooperating with the police to assist with their investigations," she said.
