Members of the OR Tambo International Airport police intercepted pieces of rhino horn weighing 10kg disguised as an artistic sculpture.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says police made the discovery at the cargo shipment warehouse area during daily routine operations this week.
"They scanned it and upon further inspection and grinding of the sculpture, discovered four pieces of rhino horn.
"Investigations are underway on the origins of the rhino horn and the verification of the destined address in China as stipulated on the shipping label."
No arrests have been made.
