The SABC has dismissed media reports that it plans to cut staff, saying it does not have any new plans to retrench staff.
Spokesperson, Vuyo Mthembu says they have noted an article in the Sunday Times that the public broadcaster plans cuts of up to a third of the staff, and refutes the claims made.
She says they would like to put on record that it does not have any new plans to retrench staff, and the newspaper only enquired about the 11 pre-conditions in relation to the SABC’s application for funding to National Treasury.
Mthembu says there was no discussion around the issue of retrenchments.
She says on January 31, the broadcaster announced that it had aborted the process of section 189 of the Labour Relations Act, following constructive and extensive engagements with various stakeholders, including Parliament's portfolio committee on communications, organised labour, and employees.
