A 42-year old woman is in police custody after being arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg with over R1 million worth of drugs – believed to be cocaine – in her possession, police said on Sunday.
“The South African woman arrived from Sao Paulo on a South African Airways flight yesterday [Saturday],” police spokesman Vishnu Naidoo said.
“Members from Customs and Excise conducted routine checks and discovered that the woman had concealed over 4 kilograms of drugs, believed to be cocaine, in books which were in her check-in luggage. The drugs are valued at over R1.2 million.”
The woman is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s court on Monday on charges of dealing in drugs.
“In the meantime the drugs will be forensically tested to determine if it is indeed cocaine,” Naidoo said.
