An American woman who has been on the run from the law in her country for seven years has been arrested in South Africa and will be sent back to face the music, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said on Friday.
The Hawks said members of the Fugitive/ Extradition Unit of the INTERPOL have arrested a wanted USA fugitive who has been on the run since 2009.
âNichole Michelle King (44) had been on the most wanted list in her country of birth for sentencing after she was found guilty on three offences relating to fraud and embezzlement of funds from her employer,â said Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda of the Hawks in a statement.
King was arrested in 2006 and was due to be sentenced on 11 December 2009 when she skipped the country and found a hiding place in South Africa.
In June this year the authorities in US requested the INTERPOL unit to arrest and extradite King.
âThe fugitive was arrested at her rental house in Brakpan, Gauteng province on Wednesday, 10 August 2016 and she subsequently appeared before the Brakpan Magistrateâs Court where she was remanded in custody until 18 August 2016,â said Netshiunda.
