SA Sports Minister "shocked by rugby analysts behavior"

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Toko Xasa says she is shocked by the alleged behavior of rugby analysts at the SuperSport studios in Randburg.

This, after former Springbok player, Ashwin Willemse walked off the set on Saturday night, following apparent comments made by fellow presenters, Nick Mallet and Naas Botha.

The incident happened after the Lions’ 42-24 win over the Brumbies in Johannesburg.

Xasa says in a statement this follows another racial incident where a K-word was used in an under-21 match between Roodepoort rugby club and Wanderers.

The Minister says she condemns this continued behavior of white entitlement in the sport of rugby.

Xasa says this behavior of entitlement by some white South Africans, who continue to think that their whiteness represents better, must come to an end.

She says it is clear that Willemse was referred to as a quota player by his fellow panelists, despite his many successes on the field of play,

Xasa called upon SuperSport to suspend the two panelists while they are conducting a full investigation.

Minister Xasa calls upon all South Africans to continue to use sport to unite, create social cohesion and build our nation. Racist elements must be exposed and isolated, she said.
