Airports Company South Africa says it has put in place extensive physical measures, standard operating procedures and staff training necessary to give effect to the Alert Level 3 regulations.
This, as the country’s airports ready for flights during Level 3 as announced by the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula.
ACSA says its three largest airports reopened on Tuesday for business passengers. OR Tambo, King Shaka and Cape Town International.
Spokesperson, Gopalang Peme, says safety measures implemented are comprehensive and cover every aspect of a passenger’s journey, from airport entry to boarding an aircraft.
Peme says the new procedures take time and passengers should arrive at the airport at least two hours before the scheduled departure.
Comair
Comair says it is unlikely to start operating again before November this year.
The company’s business rescue practitioners say this is despite the easing of restrictions on air travel, as the airline requires a substantial cash injection.
Comair’s aircraft are currently in a preservation programme to ensure that they are ready to fly again.
The business rescue practitioners confirmed they were in discussions with funders to recapitalise the airline to resume domestic passenger operations by 1 November.
They say over 30 potential funders had been contacted and six are progressing with discussions.
