A North West woman who died at the age of 128 will be laid to rest on Saturday.

Johanna Mazibuko, from Jouberton, died last week, reportedly after suffering a stroke.

She is believed to have been one of the oldest persons in the world.

According to an earlier report, Mazibuko was born on a maize farm in the Ottosdal area on 11 May 1894, but never went to school, nor could she read or write.

The mayor of the City of Matsosana Local Municipality, James Tsolela, sent his condolences to the friends and family of Mazibuko.
