SA mourns loss of writer and activist Nadine Gordimer

The death of Nobel laureate and writer Nadine Gordimer has robbed South Africa and the world at large of an astute writer and staunch human rights activist.
That's the word from Parliament's portoflio committee on Arts and Culture as tributes poured in following Gordimer's death.
Committee chairperson, Xoliswa Tom, said Gordimer while they mourn her passing, her lifetime work will continue to be celebrated all over the world.
The ANC said South Africa has lost an unmatched literary giant in Gordimer.
ANC spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, says as a member of the ANC, Gordimer had testified in mitigation in the trial of 11 United Democratic Front leaders and Vaal Civil Association activists.
Wits University vice-chancellor, Adam Habib, referred to Gordimer as as one of Wits' most illustrious alumni.
According to a family statement Gordimer died peacefully in her sleep at her Johannesburg home on Sunday at the age of 90.
