South African motorists can breathe a sigh of relief from Wednesday as the price of petrol dropped by R1.23.
The price of a litre of diesel also came down by R1.56 a litre while illuminating paraffin dropped by R1.23 cents a litre.
The Department of Energy said that the fuel price adjustments were due mainly to international factors, namely lower crude oil prices and the weaker Rand.
The Automobile Association said earlier that the drop in international petroleum prices was spurred on by the USA which is tending towards becoming a nett exporter of oil.
The AA cautioned that such a scenario will play out over the longer term and that South Africans should be more concerned with short-term effects such as the Rand/US dollar exchange rate.
