SA Government condemns Pakistan terror attack

The South African government has strongly condemned the weekend terror attacks in Pakistan in which 132 people, mostly children, were killed.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the incident which it says was a revenge attack for a major military offensive against them in the Peshawar region.

In a statement, the Department of International Relations and Co-operations says the incident violates international human rights and humanitarian law and constitutes a crime against humanity.

Department spokesperson, Clayson Monyela, says the targeting of innocent children is barbaric and should be condemned by all.

"We condemn terrorism in all it's shapes, forms and manifestations and from which ever quarter it comes from. The incident in Pakistan is particularly painful, because this was children who were targeted. We stand with the people of Pakistan and we call upon the international community to continue rooting out terrorism in our society. We send our condolences to the government and the people of Pakistan" he said
