The South African Government says it condemns the terrorist attack in Kenya, in which at least 68 people, including a South African, were killed.
President Jacob Zuma has expressed his shock and dismay at Saturday's attack in Nairobi, which claimed the life of 57-year old James Thomas from Cape Town.
More than 175 others were injured in the attack by gunmen in a mall in the capital.
The Department of International relations says the South African High Commission in Nairobi is closely monitoring the situation in liaison with the Kenyan authorities.
Spokesperson, Clayson Monyela says consular assistance is being provided to the Thomas' next of kin.
Meanwhile, three loud explosions were heard at the Westgate shopping mall on Monday morning, where Kenyan security forces are battling to end a 43-hour-long stand-off with the Somalian gunmen.
AFP correspondents at the scene say the explosions followed a sustained outbreak of gunfire that lasted around 15 minutes.
