SA Express planes grounded by CAA

CAPE TOWN, May (ANA) - The South African Civil Aviation Authority  (SACAA) on Thursday announced it had revoked the permits of the troubled SA Express, meaning the airline would have to stop operating immediately.

In a statement, the SACAA said it suspended the Air Operator's Certificate as well as the Aircraft Maintenance Organisation (AMO) approvals. In addition, nine of the airline's 21 aircraft have been grounded after their Certificates of Airworthiness (CoA) were suspended.

"This effectively means that as of today, i.e. Thursday, 24 May 2018, SA Express PTY (SOC) can no longer continue to operate as an airline," the statement said.

"In order to be able to operate, SA Express will have to reapply and be issued with relevant approvals, i.e. an air operating certificate, and an approval for the aircraft maintenance organisation, and certificates of airworthiness for the grounded aircraft."
