Clayson Monyela, the spokesman for the Department of International Cooperation (Dirco) told the African News Agency (ANA) on Wednesday morning that South is closely monitoring the situation in Zimbabwe and would issue an updated press statement shortly.
“We will update the media in about an hour with a new press release,” said Monyela.
The Dirco spokesman told the media on Tuesday that the South African government was in touch with the Zimbabwean government and was monitoring developments both as a neighbouring country and as chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
“Our advice would be that whoever wants to travel to Zimbabwe should continue to do that but please maintain regular contact with our embassy there‚,” said Monyela.
He warned, however, that the unfolding events should be taken into consideration by those wishing to visit Zimbabwe.
