DA leader Mmusi Maimane says the number of VIP body guards employed to protect the members of President Jacob Zuma’s Cabinet exceeds the number of security personnel manning the country’s border posts.
Maimane told some 200 DA supporters in Eastwood, Pietermaritzburg on Saturday that the country had experienced a spectacular decline ever since Zuma had become president six years ago.
Citing rampant unemployment, he said the ANC had failed the country’s youth and urged people to help to punish the ruling party at the polls.
Maimane’s visit to Pietermaritzburg was the third stop of his launch of the DA’s Vision 2029 tour in KwaZulu-Natal.
Earlier in the day, he addressed party members in Durban’s Inanda township and held a community meeting in Howick in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
