Delegates attending the ANC’s Eastern Cape conference will reportedly enter the International Convention Centre in East London on Saturday by way of “roll call”.
This follows a reported dispute over the number of delegates attending the conference and the apparent exclusion of hundreds of others.
ENCA reported that the dispute over the numbers centred around supporters of incumbent ANC provincial chairperson, Phumulo Masualle and challenger, Oscar Mabuyane.
The broadcaster said that disgruntled delegates complained of due process not being followed.
After lengthy delays in the registration of over 1700, the conference got underway early Friday evening with provincial chairperson delivering his organisational report.
Masualle reportedly told delegates that unemployment, poverty and inequality have become a weapon to corrupt agents to hold the organization at ransom.
He said that the party must be more “vocal vocal as champions of radical economic transformation.”
Masualle said “our province needs development the most.”
The conference, which is expected to elect the ANC’s top five in the Eastern Cape continues until Sunday.
