Robbers handed 40 year jail sentence

Two armed robbers have been convicted and sentenced in the Ezinqoleni Regional Court this week to 40 years in jail each, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.

Mthembeni Kiri Bovana, 36, and Sandile Msenti Ndlovu, 38, both received “befitting sentences for their dreadful acts that they committed in October 2016”, Captain Nqobile Gwala said.

“Bovana and Ndlovu accosted a group of church choristers who were accommodated at a home in Thuvukezi ward, Ezinqoleni, and robbed them of their valuables at knifepoint. [The] victims were robbed of their belongings and cash.”

A case of robbery was opened at the Ezinqoleni police station and an investigation led to the subsequent arrest and successful prosecution of the accused. During the arrest, police recovered the stolen items. The accused were both sentenced to 40 years in jail, Gwala said.

“We are thrilled that these criminals were sent to jail where they belong. [The] victims were youngsters from the local area and did not deserve such trauma, as any other crime victim,” said the KwaZulu-Natal acting police commissioner Maj-Gen Bheki Langa.
