One person was shot dead on Thursday morning and three others were injured during a botched cash-in-transit heist
in Boksburg and police are still hunting for seven suspects.
National police spokesperson, Vishnu Naidoo, said the police reaction team was searching for as many as seven suspects, who carried out the attack on a cash-in-transit van at about 6.30 am at the corner of North Rand and Atlas roads.
Witnesses said they heard an explosion and then gunshots. The heavily armed robbers failed to outgun the guards and fled empty-handed, but not before one of their own was shot dead. Police recovered an AK47 rifle.
A guard was injured in the shooting and taken to a hospital.

"They found a woman seated in a taxi who sustained a gunshot wound. She was found to be in a serious condition. Paramedics also found two security guards who were injured," said Van Huyssteen.
"One of the security guards sustained a gunshot wound to the foot, and the other one sustained injuries to the foot. One of the alleged suspects was fatally wounded."
