Authorities at Grootvlei prison outside Bloemfontein are keeping a close eye on the two alleged right wingers, Johan Prinsloo and Mark Trollip.
Wednesday is the second day of their hunger strike, and the correctional services' deputy regional commissioner, Grace Molatedi, says Prinsloo is being monitored especially closely because he's diabetic.
"Any offender that goes on a hunger strike is being monitored closely to check whether the offender is indeed on hunger strike, because some others claim to be on a hunger strike but they continue to eat and if they are on any medication it gets taken away and administered ourselves" she said.
The two men claim investigations are progressing too slowly, and that they have not seen an official charge sheet yet.
