Resort owner stabbed following fight over Hubbly Bubbly

Three men who were arrested in Orkney following an altercation over a "hubbly bubbly" have been charged with attempted murder.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecution Authority in the North West Province Sivenathi Gunya says the men appeared in court on Wednesday and were granted bail of R1 000- R1500 each.

She says on the public holiday on the 16th of December, Hanyane Ronauld Mei, 47, Danile Nxamakele, 35, and Pitso Radebe, 47 went to a day resort in Orkney where they brought along a "Hubbly Bubbly", which is prohibited on the premises.

Gunya says attempts by staff to stop them from smoking were unsuccessful, and the resort owner, Mark Hanscombe, 53, was called to intervene.

She says the trio allegedly displayed aggressive behaviour, assaulted Hanscombe, and stabbed him several times.

Hanscombe was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The NPA says the accused surrendered to police on Christmas Eve and were subsequently charged with attempted murder.

As part of their bail conditions, the accused must report to the Jouberton Police Station daily and may not interfere with witnesses or the complainant until the case is finalised.
