There's been widespread reaction to Tuesday's resignation of the CEO of the SA National Roads Agency Limited, Nazir Alli.
Alli announced his resignation amid the ongoing Gauteng e-toll fiasco.
The Democratic Alliance said the reasons for his resignation have not been made public but DA Shadow Minister for Transport, Ian Ollis, says Alli should not take his secrets with him when he leaves Sanral early in June.
He says resignations should not and cannot be allowed to become a way of escaping accountability.
Cosatu, which has campaigned against the introduction of e-tolls, welcomed Alli's departure.
The trade union federation said Alli had refused to listen to the groundswell of opposition to the deeply unpopular plan to commodify public roads and force residents to pay huge amounts of money to travel on previously toll-free roads.
