The Democratic Alliance has congratulated the acting national police commissioner for suspending crime intelligence boss Lt-Gen Richard Mdluli and standing up to "political interference".
Spokesperson Dianne Kohler Barnard said Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi was to be congratulated for resisting executive interference in the police and re-suspending Mdluli.
Mdluli's suspension, disclosed on Sunday, was related to allegations emerging from the ongoing court inquest into the murder of his former lover's husband in 1999.
Mdluli also faced fraud and corruption charges relating to alleged misuse of a crime intelligence fund, the purchase of luxury vehicles and the hiring of family members.
The African Christian Democratic Party also welcomed the re-suspension of Mdluli.
