Rangers from SA National Parks have picked up a reasonably fresh spoor of a lion that is believed to have escaped from Karoo National Park on Friday.
In a statement on Tuesday, SANParks said the "fresh lion spoor" was picked up on a farm neighbouring the Park.
According to park manager, Nico van der Walt, rangers patrolled a vast area again on Monday, covering two adjacent farms and made a detailed search on these properties … "where we believed we might have some luck."
He said at approximately 16:30 a spoor was found which was left after the rain fell on Friday night or Saturday morning.
"Although it is difficult to tell how fresh the spoor is but, at least this is a positive break in the search."
Van der Walt said the distance where the spoor was found is more or less 7 kilometres from the Karoo National Park's northeasterly boundary."
He said the search for the lion will continue on Tuesday.
