JOHANNESBURG, 02 August (ANA) â Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa cast his not so secret vote at Hyde Park High School in Johannesburg on Tuesday the second and last day for casting special votes.
Ramaphosa joined more than 700 000 South Africans who successfully applied to take part in the special vote category, which took place on Monday and Tuesday.
âThe voting process was very smooth particularly for the special voters. I found the IEC system flawless, really wonderfully arranged, you come in and they guide you in terms of what you do ⦠Iâm really impressed with the machinery that they have put in place,â said Ramaphosa.
âHaving cast my vote feels really good, itâs a combination of a long, long campaign and as you all know my vote is not a secret, my vote is well known and Iâm very happy that this day is here.â
The deputy president said the most important day was Wednesday, when millions of South Africans would cast their votes in the local government elections. They will be making their choices of whom they want to run their municipalities. About 26 million South Africans have registered to vote.
âWe as the ANC remain confident that we have worked hard enough. We have connected with our people and our have received our message,â said Ramaphosa.
He said what was left was for people to cast their votes between 7AM and 7PM on Wednesday, which has been declared a public holiday, so as to reconfirm their confidence in the ANC.
ANC national chairperson Baleka Mbete cast her vote earlier on Tuesday after arriving without her ID and had to fetch it before being allowed to cast her ballot in the special votes.
Special votes accommodate people who cannot go to their voting station on the election day day due health reasons, or because they will not be in the vicinity of their voting station.
