President Cyril Ramaphosa has called a joint sitting of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces to discuss a new approach to combatting violence against women.
The speaker, Thandi Modise and chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Amos Masondo have received the letter about the sitting on Wednesday next week.
Ramaphosa said in a statement that all South Africans were responsible for ensuring that the incidences of violence against women in the past two weeks should mark the turning point in the fight against gender-based violence.
Crime statistics released this week showed an increase in violence in the country, which included increases in sexual offences, such as, rape and other violence against women.
