The Railway Safety Regulator says it will investigate the level crossing accident, in which five schoolchildren were injured, when a goods train and taxi collided in Soweto on Thursday.
Spokesperson, Sibongiseni Henna says an inspector had been dispatched to investigate the incident.
He says according to eyewitnesses, a taxi - carrying school kids - overtook two stationary cars which were stopped by a traffic light, and tried to cross over the rail-line, despite a signal from the flag-men and hooting from the train.
Henna says the taxi collided with the train in the middle of the crossing.
