Public Protector Thuli Madonsela says she is investigating textbook cases in three provinces.
Speaking at a New Age breakfast briefing in Johannesburg on Thursday morning, Madonsela said she has also written to the Department of Basic Education and asked them to state what is being done to prevent similar textbook issues from arising again.
One of the cases involves the recent destruction of books in Limpopo where a contractor claimed they were being paid by government to shred the books.
The other is a complaint about some schools in the Free State that have not received textbooks yet.
The third case is in Gauteng, where there is a complaint that books for next year have not been approved yet.
