Protesting students dispersed with stun grenades outside Parliament

PARLIAMENT, October 26 (ANA) – The sound of stun grenades reverberated through the parliamentary precinct on Wednesday as police tried to disperse protesting students who had gathered at the legislature as Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan delivered his medium-term budget policy statement.

Gordhan could be heard saying “we want the violence to stop” inside the National Assembly as chaos erupted outside the parliamentary gates.

A helicopter hovered overhead as members of the public order policing unit used water cannons and stun grenades to disperse small groups of protesting students.
