Standard Bank has suspended one of its prominent economists, Chris Hart, over a controversial tweet that caused some backlash over the weekend.
Hart, who is a global investment strategist at Standard Bank, posted a tweet deemed racist and which ruffled the feathers of social media users over the weekend.
On Sunday, Hart tweeted that more than 25 years after Apartheid ended, the victims are increasing along with a sense of entitlement and hatred towards minorities.
Standard Bank condemned Hart’s tweet and said disciplinary action would be instituted against him.
The action by the bank came on the same day that another social media posting by Scottburgh estate agent Penny Sparrow drew the ire of the nation.
The Human Rights Commission says it will be investigating the social media comments by Hart, Sparrow and another South African Justin van Vuuren.
