Project impementation plan for Metro spelled out

City Manager Lindiwe Msengana-Ndlela has provided some examples of projects that would be implemented in Nelson Mandela Bay in the short term.
In a report to Council, she set dates during May for the first meeting of the investment council announced by Mayor Ben Fihla at the end of last month, as well as approval of the Industrial Development Strategy for the Metro and a review of the projects originally included in Vision 2020.

In June, in terms of the implementation plan, a call centre will be launched in Port Elizabeth, the expressions of interest and request for proposals for the development of Telkom Park will be issued and a Draft Sports Policy Framework will be approved.

Longer-term interventions include the establishment of a one-stop shop for investors and the launch of a Liberation Heritage Booklet.

An ambitious programme has also been set out with regard to service delivery and infrastructure development. One initiative, which will be launched on May 17 is the Green Hour Pro-gramme that will be part of building of communities within a sustain-able city advocacy programme.

One of the first items listed,  the revamping of the Nangoza Jebe Community Hall (Centenary Hall),  met the deadline of May 8, when it was unveiled on Wednesday.

The implementation plan reveals that the municipality is still aiming to appoint a metro police chief by the end of June, while May 15 has been set as the date when the amnesty plan for people with traffic fines exceeding R200 will be launched.
The business case for the metro police is scheduled to be tabled next week.

Further, the City Manager intends to complete an audit of municipal land being leased by the end of June. A host of other projects are also contained in the plan including the launch of an illegal dumping strategy and aspects of the Integrated Public Transport System.
