National police management has ordered all staff to vacate the SAPS Telkom Tower building in Pretoria after the Inspector-General issued a prohibition notice.
SAPS spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said the notice related to “deficiencies” identified at the building by the Department of Employment and Labour.
“The Telkom Towers building which is situated in the Pretoria CBD currently accommodates personnel attached to support divisions and components whose mandate is to provide administrative support to operational divisions,” she said.
She said arrangements were being made for these functions to be performed from alternative premises.
Mathe said SAPS is in continuous engagements with the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) whose responsibility it is to repair and maintain state facilities.
“Core policing has not been affected by this temporary closure,” she said.
