Gauteng police have launched a manhunt, following a daring escape of prisoners while they were being transported from the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Spokesperson, Captain Doniah Mothutsane says the suspects shot at the police truck and forced open the truck door to let the prisoners out.
She says the truck was transporting 28 prisoners from the Court to New Lock Prison.
Mothutsane says after the suspects forced the door of the truck open, some of the prisoners jumped off the truck into the suspects' vehicle, whilst others fled on foot.
She said sixteen of the escapees had been re-arrested, but 12 were still at large.
