A prison warder is among five suspects expected in court in Welkom for the possession of mandrax tablets worth over R1 million rand.
The official, who works at the Odendaalsrus Correctional facility was arrested on Tuesday by the Hawks.
Spokesperson, Warrant Officer Lynda Steyn said they followed up on information that the warder was involved in transporting and dealing in
drugs.
She says they swooped on a property where they arrested five suspects between the ages of 22 and 47. Police confiscated 11 bags of mandrax, a luxury vehicle and R7 000 in cash.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrates Court on Thursday.
