Price fixing case of oil companies referred to Competition Tribunal

The Competition Commission has referred a case of price fixing against some of the major oil companies to the Competition Tribunal.
It says the case of price fixing and market division regarding the supply of diesel involves Chevron, Engen, Shell, Total , Sasol, BP and the SA Petroleum Industry Association.
The commission started its investigation in 2009.
It says its investigation revealed collusive conduct through extensive exchanges of commercially sensitive information by the companies which started in the 1980's and through Sapia from 2005.
The commission has asked the tribunal to levy an administrative penalty equivalent to 10% of total turnover for the preceding financial year.
