The National Press Club on Sunday called on the National Assembly to reject the Protection of State Information Bill when it comes before parliament next year.
Chairperson, Antoinette Slabbert, says members of the NCOP who voted in favour of the Bill last week did so without keeping the Constitution and citizens' hard-fought right to information at heart.
She says while the Press Club welcomed the amendments made to the Bill, the re-drafted version still contained threats to media freedom.
Slabbert says the Bill in current form takes it a step clsoer to being a secrecy law.
The national press club called on its members to wear their "Black Tuesday" in protest against the Bill.
