POTCHEFSTROOM, July 19 (ANA) – All those who have allegations against the Gupta family must approach the police, North West premier Supra Mahumapelo said on Wednesday.
“All we see is reports in the media and the emails. Give them [the police] the evidence. The Guptas are not above the law. If they are found guilty in court they must be dealt with mercilessly,” he told Saam Werk, Saam Trek Dialogue ( loosely translate to work together, pull together) at the North West University’s Potchefstroom Campus.
He said the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) , the police or the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (commonly known as the Hawks) must be provided with information to probe allegations against the Gupta family.
“People are not brave to say, the Guptas are corrupt, we must not talk about state capture because it means all three spheres of the state are captured, meaning the judiciary, the executive and cabinet is capture…”
He told the gathering that the North West Provincial Government would disassociate itself with the Guptas once a court of law had found them guilty.
He said for the province to disassociate itself from the Guptas, it meant the province cannot hold meetings with them when there are labour problems at the mine the Guptas own in North West.
He also said racism in the province need to be uprooted, adding that the future generations must not know racial colours.
“Our people need to come together in their diversity to fight racism whenever it raises its ugly head. It is sad that we still have many people discriminating others because of the colour of their skin, this is something we must confront together as a society.”
He said not all whites were racists and all races must work together to defeat racism and build a united, democratic, non-racial North West province.
The dialogue was expected to be held two times a year.
